"Transition is a natural part of evolution. Similar to the realms of nature, artists also undergo transition and evolution. These transitions and changes, perhaps unintentional, are also perhaps for the better.
Thus, my latest transition is taking me from a previous long held interest in the theme of vessels, imbued with personal and historical significance, to new shapes equally full of meaning and mystery. I’ve discovered rich metaphors in these new shapes: bottles, bowls, branches, orbs and fish.
While the subjects may have changed, my process has remained mostly the same. I apply multiple layers of acrylic paint and then reduce them by sanding and scrubbing to see what reveals itself. The fish images came to me, surfacing in my eye, spawned from previous monotypes. Their arrival signaled yet another transition and evolution, a possible artistic variation on the origin of the species.
