Stephen Dinsmore, a well-known Midwestern painter, lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. After over a decade of living in various locales around the United States including Minneapolis, Dinsmore recently returned to settle in his home state. Dinsmore has exhibited his paintings at galleries and museums throughout the United States for over twenty years, including Associated American Artists in New York, Lydon Fine Art in Chicago, the Munson Gallery in Santa Fe, the Arden Gallery in Boston, and the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections both nationally and internationally.
"Painting means always being on the lookout for an image or idea that excites me. Grand events or small moments capture my attention: the creamy light of a late afternoon landscape, an abstract composition of weathered colors on the side of a train car, new snow that re-sculpts all it touches, or the intense beauty of a vase of flowers framed by a window. I try to make paintings that reveal a remnant of the magic or mystery held by the subject itself – a portrait of its own alchemy.Something seen or remembered is the starting point. From there, painting is a process of discovery and arrival. Nuance of tone, expression and the handling of materials are among the essential elements. It is important that the finished painting have visual permanence, allowing it to continue to resonate over time."
